After a year or so, I've noticed you've settled into the sweet spot re: number of comments (i.e., before repetition fatigues and the bots and scams and fights make for a free-for-all), and I am so grateful for your stewardship and its protection. It also has me reading ALL the comments (and they're so incredibly insightful. 450 comments would be too overwhelming to even begin reading). When comments are closed, I go looking for the one I would have made; I always find it and my reaction is almost always, "They said it better." Thank you, Jennie, for the thoroughly delightful, curated user experience!

Okay, I'm happy to read this -- What you describe is *exactly* what I'm trying to achieve, so thank you! 🙏❤️

I agree as well! One thing I've noticed though is I live in a different time zone and sometimes when I go to read your post, it's already closed. I don't know if you post at the same time every day. I'm just wondering?

Even though I think you should not have had to take on the additional labor of writing this up again because people can’t be bothered to read what you’ve written, and they want to claim oppression when they don’t get exactly what they want exactly when they want it, great work as always.

aww, thank you ❤️

This is not snarky. It’s straight forward and clear. Women are able to be this without pejorative language (used by themselves or anyone else). Literally a man writing the same thing would be seen as a leader with clear writing, so please own your voice, power and experience without judging it as snarky. Women qualify their behavior too often and you of all people can lead the way in not doing that. I love it personally.

Excellent points, thank you! 🔥

Agree! Was gling to say the same thing!

Even though I have no illusions regarding the a$$hole tax you have to pay (time and energy to make this post) that comes with social media popularity...but DAMN!

Just wanted to give you a reminder how very, very appreciated your efforts are. I have a feeling the book is going to send you into the stratosphere--and with it the larger highs and lows of fame. Please stay strong, find people to help manage and protect your baby and keep going!!!

aww, thank you 🥹

I’m so glad that BHDM is unaffiliated with The Government 😂

Jennie Young's avatar

😂😂😂 Can you imagine if we WERE, though? Things would be so much better, lol.

OMG this is the laugh I needed this morning.

MY FREE SPEECH, JENNIE! *shakes fist at screen* 🤣🤣🤣

Hahahahaha, I can always count on the Substack crowd to "get me." 😂

🤣 imagine if burnt hay stack was affiliated with the government. Over half the male representatives would be immediately kicked out and blocked. On a more serious note, very sad that Americans do not have a handle on how our constitution applies to basic rights. I would understand if later down the document you ran out of steam but the 1st amendment...smh

Remembering that you are in academia, Jennie, I look at the group as a college class. We won't get anywhere if the whole period is spent on people shouting out their repetitive opinions. We, together, learn from a combination of your lessons, the contributions of class members, and your follow-up analyses that put everything in perspective. And for this, your pay is even worse than that of an adjunct professor. Though I guess your having gotten Pat out of your research project was not a bad bonus, which academia doesn't usually pay. (FYI, the pictures of the smiles you both wear give me so much joy during these dark times, for which I am ever so grateful. Thank you for that - and for everything.)

Honestly, the whole thing has been worth it. I would've said that pre-Pat, but yes, meeting him has been the most delightful surprise 🥰. Thank you for all these kind words. ❤️

Yay!! Thanks, Jennie, for publishing important things like this here on Substack too 💖

If you make a course for BHDM, you might like links to your reels organized in this google doc, if you don't have them already. You can use File/Make a Copy. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JO4NScRpLGszGNEciG2fcGWDxmUj-JhQcnmZ6keY_eA/edit?usp=sharing

I have a friend who just had a break-up and recounted all the red flags in hindsight. I'll share BHDM with her when she is ready again. Just being able to process the hindsight with your reels is amazing, especially with the humor. MAWB explains some of what happened!

My best friend and I remind ourselves that we are badasses, and it gets us through a lot! She sent me the best gift ever last year - a little deck of cards called “affirmations for a badass” and I pull one out when I am having a rough day. The women in Burned Haystack - they definitely qualify!

Marta's avatar

Who created the “Affirmations for a Badass” deck? I’d love to buy one for myself and give them as gifts to some badass friends!

Thanks Jennie. I actually laughed at the comment about BHDM not being affiliated with The Government. :-)

Thank you for the explanation and oy, I used to work in talk radio and heard the same thing about "freedom of speech" from callers 🙄🙄🙄

Thank US citizens don't understand this is... I'll go with "frustrating."

I wish every person who comments "what is BTB?" and "I think this is okay" would read this 😆 I found it super easy to get my head around the method without commenting, and after following for a while, see that every. single. time. a rhetorical pattern is ignored, the man ends up proving it's accuracy! You are amazing 👏

Actually laughed out loud. Feck you are funny. And I always learn something that I didn't quite get. Aotearoa New Zealand looks forward to your book tour!

Thanks Jennie

I’m at the beginning of my understanding, and continually having to remind myself by watching the video clips of ’patterns’

Thank you for the liberation 🤣

I appreciate your work so much, Jenny. Without being paid. You are just amazing 🔥❤️
