Enrollment Information for my "Rhetoric in Real Life" Course
Applying Burned Haystack methodology to "everything else"
Hi Everyone!
My “Rhetoric in Real Life” course is officially open for enrollment. Here’s what that means:
You must be a paid subscriber to my Rhetoric in Real Life Substack.
***You will find the course syllabus here:
Once you’re subscribed, you’ll receive all course communications via the email you used to sign up for Substack (or you can simply go to the Substack and see everything there).
I will post one primary set of lecture/lessons per week. The course will begin on Monday, August 5th. Each week for 6 weeks, I will post this curriculum on Mondays. There may be other minor posts throughout the week if things come up, but for the most part you can expect the “work” of the week to appear on Mondays.
The lecture/lessons portion will sometimes be written and sometimes in video form.
Important note: *Every single word and element of this course is written, created, and presented by me personally. A lot of the commercial course-offering platforms out there right now are AI-assisted (I did not know that until I began researching my options for offering this course). I’m not opposed to AI in general, but I’m strongly opposed to the way it’s being used in these platforms, and that’s one of the reasons I opted not to use any of them as hosts and am instead offering the course through Substack. It’s also going to be technologically way easier for all of you this way (because you don’t need to learn course-management software), so win-win. 😊
In addition to reading written lessons and watching video lectures, you’ll be interacting with one another in discussion forums (this process will be similar to commenting on a Facebook post and discussing with other commenters).
The primary assignments/projects of the course are these:
You’ll define your problem; the prompt for that is “Who or what is driving you insane?”
You’ll build a rhetorical toolkit that will provide a foundation of applied rhetorical knowledge and that will sharpen your rhetorical instincts and skills.
You’ll use your rhetorical toolkit to create your own “algorithm” for dealing with the problem person/situation you defined.
All of these skills are transferable. If you can do it for this course, you can keep doing it.
Another important note: Your “problem” doesn’t have to be some horrible, nefarious person or thing. Maybe “problem” means “challenge” or “dream” or “project” in your case. Maybe your problem is that you want people to take you more seriously. This will help you do that.
If you want to enroll in the course, please subscribe as a paid subscriber to Rhetoric in Real Life Substack. The cost is $10.00/month or $100.00 per year (this is a cheap class. I can’t promise it will always stay this cheap, but right now I want it to be accessible, and it’s the virgin voyage for it, so there could be a glitch or two. I promise I’ll stay on top of things 😊 ).
*There is also a real-time, Zoom-facilitated add-on component of this course that is only available to members of the Burned Haystack Dating Method™ Facebook community. There will be very limited “seats” available in this component, and they will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Specific info for this option will be posted in the Facebook group. The Zoom add-on will not present new curriculum; it will extend and personalize the curriculum and work of the course. The reason enrollment is so restricted is that I want to be able to engage with everyone on an individual basis.
That’s all for now, and I hope to see you over at Rhetoric in Real Life!
~Jennie
I've been a Substack reader for over a year, but Jennie, you are the first to inspire me enough to break out the credit card. Thank you for all you do!
I share the all the time but not necessarily online.
