Thank you so much, Jennie, for these wise words and explicit things we can each do to be less vulnerable, to protect as many vulnerable others as we can, and try to survive. I experienced that click, I recognized the abuse, and I got out. It was not easy, but I did it. This will be magnified a million-fold, but I’ll be here, doing my best. Glad to know you, a bit, as we walk this together.

Wonderful, wise words with pragmatic actions. Please know that many people all around the world care and are concerned. Let's keep our collective chins up so the sun shines on our faces. HUGS from me in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

From the UK, I’m so sorry you’re in this situation.

It’s dangerous for all of us, over here too, with a maniac in charge of the nuclear codes. However, I really feel for US younger generations in particular - those who might want to start a family, but have dwindling chances of doing that healthily and safely.

I totally get your messaging here and agree. As a recent divorcee, there’s no better feeling than the freedom of your own place, career and money.

There are two ways to grow - through suffering or through enlightenment. The US just chose suffering.

**sigh** is it really that unheard of to be a Christian feminist? I know there are men who have completely twisted it, but I still believe Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.

I believe it's totally possible to be a Christian feminist. There are a lot of churches (Christian and otherwise) who are more than happy to warp and bend scripture in service of their own malpractices, but there are also a lot of churches that are specifically NOT doing that, that are protecting and celebrating women and LGBTQ folks and sheltering refugees and engaging in progressive political action.

No I did NOT vote for trump.

Feminism needs you! We all benefit when you and other people of faith show others how to live their faith without twisting it against others. Those examples (and when safe, conversations) need to come from within the faith community.

You're not alone Bry! I'm here with the same mindset, and have many friends in the space, including men. I seek out the churches that align, they are there 💕

There are lots of us Bry! I’m here too! I’m disgusted by the outcome of this election and the implications for women, minorities, and immigrants, but trying my very best to live by Christ’s example which was unequivocally to UPLIFT the oppressed. I don’t serve my church, I serve my God. I may find a church I love and and I’ll serve alongside fellow Christians within my church and others’ churches, but only in activities where the heart of God is accurately represented. It’s a struggle, but one very worth while. And there are awesome churches out there, but they too are needles and we have to be willing to block to burn the imposters!

One of the local leaders of the pro-choice movement here is a leader in a Christian church. While I've got too much trauma to go back to the church, I greatly admired that she was leading with love as Jesus said to instead of hate and judgement. One of my good friends has remained active in the Catholic church and I've asked her many questions, and her response always comes back to "change will only come from within".

Thank you so much for this! I feel the most profound sadness and have just been able to cry. I am an abuse/neglect survivor (now a thriver) and a master of cocooning so I am fortifying my home, taking some additional safety measures and stocking up (not clearing the shelves) and am prepared to opt out of anything that does not feed my soul. I am going to one of my favorite green spaces to bird and plan to spend some time in nature to balance what feels unimaginable right now.

Thank you. I have tears running down my face right now. I wasn't sure if I would be able to do this again, but your words and actions are a great help. I'm having such a hard time pulling it together to finish this semester, focus on work, and be strong for the kids.

Great article. I agree with being resilient and centered in reality as we move backwards in a fascist regime

This is exactly what I needed to read today.

I'm adding another thing to my Burned Haystack checklist and surviving all this- checking to see if someone voted. Someone who didn't think womens' rights were important enough to go vote this year.... I just can't.

How do we know if someone voted or not? I thought that was private information?

WHO you voted for is private. IF you voted or not is public record

Jennie, my words are not enough to express what a strength you are to me right now in this storm. Thank you for being the lighthouse.

Thank you for this - it is validating, knowing that my feelings of dread and PTSD triggering from the abusive ex is real. And helpful to feel less alone. I will certainly come back to this to reread it, when I am less numb and sad, and to recharge my resolve over time.
